Radiocarbon, Volume 22, Number 4 (1980)
ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
Radiocarbon is the main international journal of record for research articles and date lists relevant to 14C and other radioisotopes and techniques used in archaeological, geophysical, oceanographic, and related dating.
This archive provides access to Radiocarbon Volumes 1-54 (1959-2012).
As of 2016, Radiocarbon is published by Cambridge University Press. The journal is published quarterly. Radiocarbon also publishes conference proceedings and monographs on topics related to fields of interest. Visit Cambridge Online for new Radiocarbon content and to submit manuscripts.

Age Reporting of Very Old SamplesProblems of the statistical interpretation of radiocarbon age measurements of old samples are discussed, based on the notion of fiducial probability distribution. A probability density function of age has been given. A detailed discussion of different facets of the probability distribution of age has led us to the confirmation of the use of 2-sigma as the best limiting value between the regions of finite and infinite dates. It has been proposed to make use of the principle of constant probability P = 0.68 in the regions of both finite and infinite ages instead of the criterion N+k(sigma).
